International Choir Competition, Grand Prix and Festival

San Juan, Argentina

June 18th - 22nd, 2020

RULES OF THE SAN JUAN CANTA FESTIVAL: NON COMPETITIVE INSTANCE

The International Choir Festival SAN JUAN CANTA will take place in San Juan, Argentina, between June 18 - 22, 2020.

Its main headquarters will be Auditorio Juan Victoria, located at Avenida 25 de Mayo 1215 oeste (San Juan)

It is a non-competitive festival, for mixed, female, male and/or chamber choirs. Children and youth choirs are also welcome. A concert circuit in Auditorio Juan Victoria and other concert halls, museums and other cultural spaces of the province will be organized.

A concert circuit will be prepared in the Juan Victoria Auditorium and in various concert halls, museums and other spaces in the city and the surrounding departments.

The Artistic Committee will select the choirs that will participate in the Festival based on the documentation and demos received.

The choirs will participate in three concerts:

a) Two Choral Fraternity concerts, in a hall to be assigned, with a maximum duration of 35 minutes;
b) in Auditorio Juan Victoria, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes of stage time (from the beginning of the first piece until the end of the last one - not just the singing time)

The Jury can invite a choir of the Festival to participate in the final Grand Gala Concert on Sunday, June 21st, 2020.

APPLICATION

To apply, you must complete the registration form in all its fields available in our Integral Management Platform.

Registration deadline: March 25th, 2020.

Note: the organization does not provide instruments for concerts, except those of the Juan Victoria Auditorium (piano and organ).

The material sent will not be returned.

All the applicants must wait for their admission notification from the Artistic Committee.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

The repertoire to be performed in the Festival’s concerts will be chosen freely by each choir.

The repertoire proposal may be modified until April 25th, 2020. No program changes are allowed after said date. Dances are not allowed on the stage of Auditorio Juan Victoria, nor amplification or encores.

The use of traditional instruments is admitted. The use of traditional or folkloric clothing is also welcome.

The organization does not provide instruments nor have any responsibility towards its transportation and care.

Mandatory work (out of competition): all choirs (in Festival, Competitions and Grand Prix) must participate in the Closing Concert performing a mandatory work (will be informed). The work must be studied deeply in advance, will be pre-rehearsed and will be performed as the closing work of SAN JUAN CANTA under the direction of a prestigious guest conductor.

Any doubt about these requirements will be answered by the previous consultation with the President of the Artistic Committee Prof. María Elina Mayorga ([email protected]) or will be resolved by the Jury. The decision will be final.

ADMITTANCE

Choirs will be notified of the selection results by April 1st, 2020.

The complete list of participating choirs will be informed via e-mail and spread out publicly in the press and internet.
