SAN JUAN CANTA International Choral and Festival is a renewed choral proposal from San Juan, Argentina, based on the international trajectory displayed in the organization of nine editions of "San Juan Coral”, four editions of "Ansilta, National Choral Competition and Festival”, four editions of “Canto en Sol", international festival for children and youth choirs and the first release of San Juan Canta in August 2016.

It is organized every two years by Coro Arturo Beruti and its conductor, Professor María Elina Mayorga, who is the creator and Artistic Director of all the mentioned events.

Sponsored by the Government of San Juan, San Juan Canta is an important opportunity to artistic and cultural exchange that is offered from San Juan, the great Argentinian choral pole, internationally recognized for its excellence.

Our goals:

  • to sing together in a major international event, promoting the interpretation and propagation of the universal choral repertoire.
  • to strengthen the choral activity in San Juan, Argentina, connecting and analyzing among the participants the universal choral repertoire, interpretative styles and qualities of the countries represented.
  • to provide the opportunity to learn and improve by participating in workshops, conferences and seminars in charge of outstanding professionals.
  • to share in San Juan the choral music of all times, as well as to enhance the love for choral singing.

Being the beautiful Auditorio Juan Victoria the headquarters of the auditions and concerts, we make an international call to amateur choirs in all categories to show their artistry by choosing any of the three modes: Festival, Competition and Grand Prix

San Juan Canta will be supervised by the President of the Artistic Committee, Prof. Maria Elina Mayorga, in cooperation with the President of the International Jury, Dr. T. J. Harper (Boston, U.S.) and a prestigious group of world recognized jurors. Important awards are offered. In addition, concerts in the city and activities by guest professionals, as well as social meetings of comradeship among all participants are organized.

No less attractive is the idea of visiting San Juan and discover its beautiful mountain landscapes and wineries.

We invite you to explore our website, learn the basis and participation requirements and join us for the next editions.

The Government of San Juan and Coro Arturo Beruti give you the most openhearted welcome.

The choirs will participate in three concerts:

a) Two Choral Fraternity concerts, in a hall to be assigned, with a maximum duration of 35 minutes;
b) in Auditorio Juan Victoria, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes of stage time (from the beginning of the first piece until the end of the last one - not just the singing time)
The Jury can invite a choir of the Festival to participate in the final Grand Gala Concert on Sunday, June 21st, 2020.

SAN JUAN CANTA, INTERNATIONAL CHOIR
FESTIVAL, COMPETITION AND GRAND PRIX
San Juan, Argentina

BACKGROUND

María Elina Mayorga, founder and artistic director of San Juan Canta, has also been founder and artistic director of other choral events of great national and international prestige in which she has assessed a vast experience that now, together with the Arturo Beruti Choir, is set service of the organization of San Juan Canta.

Among the most outstanding events, undoubtedly San Juan Coral and Ansilta occupy a prominent place.
Both have had common axes of action that are also held in San Juan Canta currently:
1) the projection of the event in the community through the performance of innumerable concerts in schools, museums, churches and other cultural spaces of San Juan to share the song with the entire provincial community,
2) the organization of workshops and conferences by prestigious invited professionals, to offer participants and other interested parties the opportunity to study and improve on various topics related to universal choral singing.
3) the gala concerts at the Juan Victoria Auditorium, the main venue for the festivals. This Auditorium is one of the most important concert halls in Latin America for its excellent acoustics and modern design, with capacity for 1000 people, it constitutes an important attraction and an artistic delight for the participating choirs and the public present.

No less important has been the careful programming of a demanding and diverse repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day, including commissioned works and first auditions in San Juan. Folklore, traditional music and traditional costumes have also been present reflecting the traditions and identities of the participating choirs.
The sublime acoustics of the Juan Victoria Auditorium allowed the choirs to explore different formations and subtle dynamic ranges taking advantage of the amplitude of the stage optimizing the interpretation of their repertoire.

Social gatherings where friendship, music and dancing, typical foods, delicious wines of the region and the new affections of the friendly coral atmosphere magically closed each event.

Nine editions of San Juan Coral and four editions of Ansilta, among other projects, have made the choral activity of San Juan a point of great attraction and international recognition.
Welcome to SAN JUAN CANTA!
